If you are like me and want to gain weight, this post is for you. Today we are going to debunk some weight gain supplement myths and how to get bigger. There has been a lot of buzz around gaining weight and weight gain supplements like ensure, protein bars or shakes. But today, we are going to explore the coveted Apetamin syrup, which is a weight gain supplement that has taken the world by storm. Time to mythbust and decide whether you should try it or not, let's get started.
What is Apetamin?
Apetamin is a supplement (that comes in syrups or pills) that is designed to relieve the symptoms of allergies but has recently has been used to help people gain weight. The syrup can: increase appetite, help with sneezing, watery eyes, itchy or a runny nose, migraines and vascular headache. I am going to focus on the supplements ability to increase of appetite and support weight gain.
What does it do?
Taking the recommended amount of Apetamin (5ml per day 3x a day) can almost immediately cause the person to have increased hunger then increased fatigued. With extended use of the supplement, you can up the dosage and still have the initial effects. A lot of people have noted that soon after the first dosage, their hunger was ravenous and did not cease throughout the duration of using Apetamin.
Specs and Caution -
The side effects include: constipation; dizziness; drowsiness; dry mouth, throat, or nose; excitability; nausea; nervousness; restlessness. The price varies from $18-$60 per week or two-week supply (depending on site) and some places don't have an authentic product. Because Apetamin is also an allergy medicine, you must be weary of using it frequently. There has been no long-term study on how it impacts someone after using it for any duration of time. It is also recommended that you consult a doctor prior to starting the supplement!
It Will Make My Butt Grow?
Maybe* The hunger that Apetamin causes will make you to eat extra calories and with excess consumption of calorie you can gain weight in your derrière. But why the asterisk (*)? Although Apetamin can help anyone gain weight almost immediately, I would not recommend it for those who want more controlled weight gain. What I mean by this, is that a lot of people attribute getting a "big butt" from Apetamin, but they discount the other effects. In addition to genetics, natural fat distribution and your workout regime; Apetamin will cause overall weight gain and not isolated mass gain. I.e. you cannot control where you will gain weight. People who have gained weight on the supplement, have gained more fat all over there body, not just in one place. Apetamin can cause your arms, face and stomach to retain more fat in addition to your butt and legs. A lot of people have also gained a sufficient amount of belly fat on the supplement.
If you want to gain overall weight and don't care where, trying Apetamin can help you pack on the pounds without doing much. Apetamin will make you gain fat and not muscle, because it causes you to consume higher fat and carb foods rather than increasing muscle mass. The retention of weight gain after ceased use of Apetamin is also questionable. If you are trying to build your body to a curvier stature, I would avoid Apetamin and try these methods of gaining muscle and getting thicker:

1. Increase weekly calorie consumption by 500-700 calories. Eating more is the obvious way to gain weight, but you want to slowly adjust to getting bigger. This allows you to retain added muscle and gradually get your body accustom to excess calories (this is also the safest way to gain weight.) Try eating more protein, adding whey, healthy fats or extra carbs to your daily meals, especially post workout. This may lead to you eating an extra meal during the day (aim for 6-7). 2. Decrease cardio. Cardio is great for your heart health and breaking a sweat, but it assists is burning calories, losing fat and breaking down muscle. If you are trying to get bigger cut your cardio in half (1-2 day a week for cardio) or just cut it out of your routine entirely. I like adding plyometric to my workout to get cardio intensity without losing my mass. Plyo is adding jumps, quicker reps or mini circuits of exercises in between your heavier sets.
3. Lift. Yes, the science behind gaining muscle is easy, you need to tear your current muscles in order to build new ones. The easiest way to do this is lifting heavy. If you are new to weight lifting or using machines in the gym, don't be afraid to explore them and ask for help. If you are trying to get bigger muscles in a specific area (like the glutes) you want to lift heavier and for shorter reps. 4. Eat and sleep. The way apetamin works is genius because you are consuming a lot of energy, then not doing any physical activity causing your body to store the energy as fat. However, you do not need the supplement to do this. Eating and sleeping is a great way to store extra energy and gain weight. You should not do this after every meal and should still strive to live an active lifestyle. 5. Patience. To naturally gain weight, you need to give your body time to adjust. If your metabolism is faster, it may be hard initially to pack on the pounds and your body will fight to keep you at your current weight. Stick to the plan and allow yourself to adapt. To gain weigh healthy and exactly where you want, you need to change your diet, workout routine and lifestyle to accommadate what you want. Whether it's forcing yourself to eat an extra meal, drinking 3 cups of whey a day or adding extra time in your workout; make the adjustments for the body you want and the body will follow.
