Meal prep is probably the most overused words in fitness but it is one of the most easiest and resourceful methods ever. Meal prep is preparing all your meals for the week, in one day usually in the beginning of the week. After preparing your food, you virtually never have to worry about what you're going to eat for that week.
1. Easy! This method is the easiest way to have food ready for your entire week, so you have more free time.
2. Simplifies your eating. When you meal prep, you are essentially having the same meals everyday that week. Now you don't have to come up with new things to eat all the time.
3. Mentally gets you ready to make better choices. After doing meal prep, it excites you and gets you in the mindset of healthier eating. You bought, prepared and cooked healthy foods for a week.
4. Less stress. If you ever get nervous or anxiety when it comes to what to eat, meal prep takes care of everything for you. You know exactly what you are eating when and it is ready to go.
Now see I like to prep!
Meats - Usually when I meal prep I like to make chicken breast. I cut each chicken breast to my portion size and season with whatever I want that week. I like to either bake, fry or use a grill to make my chicken. When you are making your meats you want to make sure that you season it to something you can eat for 7 days without getting bored (this may be hard.) If I meal prep with turkey patties I like to freeze them and make them the day of. If I use fish, I have to make it the day of and use fresh fish. Whatever meat you choose make sure your portion it right and see if you can make a big batch at one time.
For rice, pasta or sweet potatoes I make a huge batch of one or two so I have some more options. Sweet potatoes are one of the more popular options, but if you prefer rice change it up. You can also just do whole wheat bread as well. See my guide for carbs here. Make sure your option is whole wheat!
These are the easiest to meal prep. You can steam any vegetable of your choice in the beginnning of the week and have it ready. For salads I recommend making it the day of.
I see so many pictures of people with 20-30 stacks of containers of there meal prep. I like to package my food differently. I put all my protein, vegetables and carbs in seperate large containers. Then I keep 2-3 small containers and package my meals for that day. This is easy for me because it's less dishes then having so many dirty containers but see which way works best for you!
Although I meal prep weekly, I still make some meals during my day. For breakfast and dinner I usually make fresh food. If I don't have time to make dinner, then I use my pre-made meal prep food. Meal prep can make your life a lot easier and keep your focused and organized, try it this week!
