So if you have an Instagram and follow any celebrity you probably have seen Flat Tummy Tea... Everyone is drinking this tea and promoting it. But does it actually work? I have always been skeptical of these "tea-toxes" because everyone is getting paid to promote it, regardless of if it works or not. So here is my mythbusting of flat tummy teas.
So the most popular of all the teatoxes, or the one I see the most, is Flat Tummy Tea this tea claims to: "Flat Tummy Tea is a 2 step tea detox packed with ingredients traditionally known to help cleanse your system, support metabolism, reduce bloating and boost energy."
The tea is $49 for 4 weeks and is split into 2 steps which is "activate" and "cleanse". The ingredients in the tea is:

All the ingredients in the teas are healthy and have positive "cleansing" benefits; such as peppermint and green tea. The ingredients are natural and can cause the benefits it claimed to have.
Flat Tummy Tea is not the cure for losing extra pounds and there are many other cleanses and recipes you can use without buying this tea. Flat tummy tea is basically a mixture of herbs and seeds that have diuretic properties and can make you use the bathroom more. However there are many more recipes that can cause this, that are more cost efficient and accesible. Check out some of them below!
Chia Seed Water -
Chia seeds are one of the most nutrient filled, low calorie seeds ever. They offer so many benefits at around 130 calories per serving (2 tablespoons). They contain fiber, protein, calcium, magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. Basically chia seeds can help you clean your system, keep skin and hair healthy, and keep you full longer. The seeds range from $5-11 depending on where you buy them and can last you months. For this recipe you add 2 tablespoons of the seeds to a water bottle and drink it throughout the day. Or you can add 1 tablespoon to 1 cup of water in the morning and do the same at night.
Water is not only the cheapest way to detox it is the easiest and the most effective detox you can do. Drinking water can clear your skin, get rid of toxins, moisturize your skin, keep you full, regulate your metabolism, keep body hydrated and basically is the only liquid you need to drink. Increasing your daily amount of water to 3 Liters can drastically improve your health and is a good way to keep your body happy.
Green Tea -
I love Green Tea (as seen in my first ScorpTip☝🏾)
Green tea can:
1. Boosting your metabolism
2. Provides body with needed antioxidants
3. Can improve brain functioning
4. Helps burn fat
5. Can lower your risk of getting Alzheimers/Parkinsons
6. Helps you lose weight
Detox Waters -
Detox waters are seen everywhere and they do work. Basically you add your favorite fruit to your water and it adds a light taste and the fruits nutrients to the water. The most effective is lemon or citrus water, cucumber water, strawberry or berry water and peppermint and lime water. These can curve your appetite, ensure your drinking enough water and it's refreshing drink. Try out each and see which ones you love the most. My favorite is berry water!

China Slim Tea -
I don't remember when I got introduced to this tea but if you are backed up this is the tea to drink. This tea is a herbal laxative and with the main ingredient being "senna". This is a last resort tea, if you are having great difficulty using the bathroom. After drinking it, you may feel stomach cramping and feel very uncomfortable but soon after you will be running to the toilet. The ingredients also include: Cassia Acutifolia Delile (Hoja de Sena), Folium Sennae, Tinnevelly Senna, Cassia Angustifolia Vahl, Panax Quinquefolium, Radix Panacis Quinquefolii, Malva Verticillata, Fructus Malvae. For this tea use it sparingly because it has a laxative effect, it can be damaging. If you haven't had a bowel movement in weeks or months, I would try this tea. Make sure you are drinking a lot of water the next day and are eating regularly.
The easiest way to cleanse is changinging your diet or adding different nutrients or supplements. Eating more fiber, magnesium and antioxidants will give you the direct effects that a cleanse will do and can help you eat better for your body. Berries, green, black, camomille or any herbal tea will give you more antixodants to your body which makes your skin glow and fight of free radical cells. Eating more fiber like oatmeal, black beans, dried fruit, beans, broccoli, brussel sprouts, advocadoes, bran and other whole wheat foods can help you use the bathroom more and do the "cleanse" part of a detox. If you aren't using the bathroom incorporating these more daily can fix that issue. Using less sodium can help you retain less water and fight off bloat, which most cleanses are targeting for. Even using half the ammount of salt you use now can make your waist line smaller.
Final Verdict -
Flat tummy teas aren't the worse thing but you can save your money and get the same results using other methods. Try one of the recipes I offered and chane your diet to get more long-term sustainable body cleanse to your body.
